ALFABET Orientation week
Orientation week for incoming ALFABET students
21st and 25th September 2015
Faculty of Tropical AgriSciences
Czech University of Life Sciences Prague (CULS), Czech Republic
The ALFABET Orientation week for incoming students supported by ALFABET Erasmus Mundus grants was held during the last week in September in Prague. The Orientation Week brings together students who are awarded with an ALFABET scholarship for full master (24 months) and full doctorate (36 months), staff and representatives of the Universities where these students are starting their studies in Europe and Asian project partners representatives.
40 students participated the Orientation week. The objectives of this event were threefold:
- Facilitate the integration in Europe, by providing a number of services, information and specific training (cultural integration);
- Create a common “ALFABET spirit” and build team among students as well as among staff (through the participation to a number of team work activities);
- Expose the students to different scientific and academic perspectives (lectures, conferences, debates…). As much as possible, these sessions were based on active learning methods, to which Asian students are generally little familiar.
The Orientation week was connected to the Interactive workshop on “Employability of Erasmus Mundus alumni and new approaches of Erasmus +”. This workshop was the closing event of the ASK Asia project, an Erasmus Mundus Action 3 project facilitated in 6 Asian countries (Cambodia, China, Indonesia, Mongolia, Thailand and Vietnam) aiming to evaluate the competitiveness of Erasmus Mundus alumni in the field of agriculture and related life sciences through the experience of alumni and the expectations of their employers.
